We've been reading about the Knights Templar for years, but nothing prepared my wife Carol and me for what it felt like to actually stand inside the Charola with Darren Keohane as our guide. That moment - walking into the sixteen-sided rotunda, modeled on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, surrounded by faded frescoes and gilded statuary glowing under the Byzantine dome - is one Carol and I still talk about.
